A ready base has a predefined geometry. If it is of good quality and installed correctly, the slopes and runoff are already in the product. In the built-in shower, everything is created in the project. This gives freedom, but also responsibility.

The craftsman must achieve correct levels, correct grouting, correct waterproofing, correct siphon placement and correct tiling. If one of these gets wrong, the final image may look good, but the usability may be problematic.

The most dangerous thing is that many mistakes are hidden. The owner sees the finished tile and glass. He does not see if there is continuity of waterproofing under the tile, if the siphon has a proper flange, if the corners have tapes, or if the cement mortar had the correct slope before the tiles were glued. It makes sense when the owner is willing to invest in the technical stages. If the goal is simply to "go cheap", a built-in shower is not always the best choice. A good precast foundation can be safer and more predictable in a financial project.

When does it need attention or is it not good?

The built-in shower needs special attention in old bathrooms where there is not enough height for proper drainage. If the siphon cannot be lowered or if the slopes of the drain are borderline, it may be necessary to raise the floor or change the design. It is not possible to ask for a level shower when the existing network does not allow it without serious intervention.

It also calls for attention on wooden or light substrates, on plasterboard without proper provision, or in cases where the workshop has no experience with waterproofing systems. The built-in shower is more than just mortar and tile. It's a system.
