At the finished surface, corners should usually be sealed with a resilient material, such as a suitable sanitary silicone, rather than a rigid cementitious grout. Under the tiles, in the correct applications, the corner should have sealing tape integrated into the waterproofing. This is the real technical defense. Damage is seen when the material becomes saturated. Plaster begins to bubble on the adjacent wall. Silicone gets darker and darker. The joints release salts. A tile sounds hollow. A stain appears in the lower compartment. The musty smell gets stronger. Then the problem has already progressed.
